Mossy 6th after leading at Mistley Cross
What a tough race for the last one of the season! A great start after being called first to the grid
. I had a good lead at the end of the first lap, not such a good lead at the end of the 2nd and no lead at all at the end of the 3rd!
The course at Mistley is always a tough one, run on the side of a hill, but the steep hills were made even worse by sticky mud and slippery leaves. Bike handling was at a premium and grip was at a minimum. I can usually ride most of the steep bits at Mistley but today a lack of grip force me to run a lot of them which was probably my undoing.
Nothing was riding on this race as I was already safe in 3rd place in the League but it would have been nice to take another win. I took a flyer from the whistle, clicked in first time (which is unusual for me!) and lead by some 15 seconds on the 1st lap despite falling once. 2nd lap and I was trying to consolidate but I think I'd done too much already. Martin Graves made his way up to me which I was hoping was a good thing as I had someone to work with. I couldn't go with him
. Shortly after, blowing from a certain orifice! Consequently overtaken by four others to finish 6th. Disappointing, just one of those days when you haven't got it.
