This is a spreadsheet collating all the results (Well nearly all - there are a few missing but don’t blame me; CCS did not type them up!) for the TT's around about Lavenham on Thursday evenings. Next year I will try to get them all. Having said that CCS should have their own website (www.cycleclubsudbury.com) up and running by then and I expect the results will be available there.

Great event, brilliant weather, excellent bike, poor result!! I made all my excuses on the day, needless to say I was a little disappointed to lose my EDCA Hill Climb Champion title. Well done to James Ward for another solid performance in winning the overall and to Steve Grimwood for taking the EDCA title - look after it for me Steve, I'll after it back next year!!
It was great to see Conrad on his bike and not a bad result to boot! As for Mr Bark... I'll not say anything as he will be 'smashing me up' even more in training!!
Thanks to all of you who turned out on Sunday to support Conrad, Lee, I and all the other riders.
I'll be back! Plus we need to work on the team to make sure we win the team title as well!!

I would like to thank all those people who have helped James and me over the last 6 months. My wife, who is a serving soldier at Wattisham Station, was posted at short notice to Bosnia for 6 months at the end of March. Being a keen Triathlete and Time Trialist I thought that would be the end of my race season before it even started, which runs pretty much from March to October. As we do not have any family within 200 miles of us to lean on and James our 8 year old son is far too young to leave on his own while I went off racing. How wrong can a man be! I have had a hugely successful season only curtailed by a short illness, with a minimum of disruption to James and all because of my friends who readily volunteered to help me out. On a number of occasions I had not even thought about entering events until prompted.
These good people made mine and James life far more bearable over the last 6 months and it is nice to know that one really does have friends. That’s not to say we haven’t missed the Missus because we have, loads, but she is home now, yippee.
The people in question are:
Adrian and Kirsty Pettitt. Special thanks to Kirsty for allowing me to race every Thursday night. Jason Everett and Ramona Berglund, Paul Barton and good lady Lyn. Help from outside the club came from Helen and David Everett not related to our own VILLAGE, and Martin and Dawn Horner.
I managed to compete in 9 Triathlons, winning 5, coming 3rd in 2, 4th in 1 and 1 DNF due to a puncture. My results are overall positions not age group position.
Thank you and Good Health, Lee Bark

Not bad for an old bloke! - Adrian
Well, you couldn't have asked for much more of the weather for October, it was pretty damn good, but boy, was it a tough event!!!
I'd hoped and thought that this event/course would have given me another PB, but it was not to be. The outleg was into a head wind and, to me anyway, it seemed to go uphill all the way to the turn - and we had to do it twice!! The return leg didn't appear to go downhill proportionally either!!
Anyway, enough excuses! I still went under the hour in 58:30 for twelth place. Lee went well again this week (Not that he'll agree!) to finish 5th in 55:52 and Jason, in his first 25 of the year(!!!) got in under the hour with 59:57.
Just the ECCA 3-up Team Time Trial to round off the season next Sunday - I know Jason can't wait!!!

Another week - another PB!! I shaved another 4 seconds off to finish 8th in 57:55! Lee came in 4th with 56:38, not that he was particulary happy with his performance - he does give himself a hard time! I'm not sure who won yet! When we left Martin Pyne was the winner on the board with 54:43, but David Staff was disputing his time (56:17) saying he believed he was 2 minutes quicker. We left before the time keepers returned to the HQ to sort it out. Adrian.
Update: Results are up on the CTT website, and Lee is a litle happier, because as it turns out, he was actually 3rd! David Staff (Anglia Velo) won with a 54:19, Peter Balls (West Suffolk Wheelers) was 2nd in 56:12, Lee 3rd in 56:38 and Martin Pyne (Anglia Velo) 4th in 56:43.
PB's all round! Well, except for Jason! Still a good performance though (22:29 - 14th) considering he's not competed much this year and is not at his best.
Lee set a new best time of 21:15 giving him fourth place in the event, followed by me with a 22:03 for 9th. I'm saving the '21' for next year!
Event winner was Sam Barker of API-Metow with a 20:32. API also took the team prize (1:04.36), closely (!) followed by SDCC (1:05.47).

The above event took place on the 17th of September and being in Kent made it possible to travel on the day. The ride consists of two distances of 80k and 140k on quiet country roads I opted for the longer ride as this was nearer to the distance we ride on Sundays. The route is basically within a triangle of Sevenoaks, Maidstone and Tenterden and, although not as hilly as some sporting rides, is still just as hard because of the higher speeds.
The ride starts by going down a 25% hill within the first ½ mile promptly followed by a long climb up to the starting height and from then the roads continually roll up and down intermingled with a lot of flat sections and the occaisional steeper climb.
I was lucky enough to get in a group of riders who were a touch quicker than myself but buy keeping a low profile and sat in the middle of the bunch of about thirty riders covering the ground at a steady pace in the low twenties and hanging on for dear life on the steeper climbs. As the ride progressed we dropped a few riders and collected one or two along the way at one point at about 50 miles a got dropped on one of the steeper climbs but fortunately this was soon followed by along down hill section on which I hit a top speed of 45MPH then hammered it for the next three or four miles to finally to get back on the bunch. The rest of the ride was uneventful until reaching the bottom of the 25% hill we started on it was here I finally went out the back and struggled up at a breath taking 4MPH to finish in a time of 4hrs 5mins 48secs and an ave speed of 19.4MPH although the route turned out to be 130k approx, this time gave me a Gold standard in the 18-39 age group let alone my age group and a finishing position of 37th, and first over 60.

Yippee! its time for the annual pilgrimage to the Hotel Dory, Riccione, Italy.
This is my fourth visit and this year I was joined by Gary, this being his second visit, and Graham and Janet Berry. I am sure everybody enjoyed themselves and I really must stress how welcome everybody makes you, nothing is too much trouble.
The day usually starts with a leisurely breakfast and then we meet in the bike room at 09.30, where you choose which group you would like to join. Rolls, energy drinks and bananas are provided and away you go.
This year the climbing was not as severe as in the past, which was lucky for me, as my energy levels were at an all time low, not helped by my two club mates
having a week long testosterone contest (they really were very strong) I keep warning these young whippersnappers that my day will come, but it seems to have been delayed indefinitely!
When we return from the ride, usually about mid afternoon, after clocking up circa 100 km, pasta and cakes are provided just for the cyclists, and this is where Gary really comes into his own, head down and sprint for the cakes, well done Gary you won again!!. I normally roll him down to the beach to catch some rays before dinner, if I'm strong enough.
Dinner at 19.00 with all wine and beer provided free and excellent food, afterwards we all retire to the bar to talk about the days exploits or in my case lack of them. Friday evening they have a slide show, which gives Stefano (the hotel patron) a chance to take the mick out of us. At the end of the evening I usually ask several strong people to help me tuck Gary in for the night. That reminds me Gary was in the shower and he yelled out for some help as a nasty hairy monster was in with him attacking him, when I went in it turned out to be a mirror in the shower, what can you do friends?
All I can add is, roll on next year, where I hope more of you will join us?!
Regards, Alan

Last month Alan Rouse, Graham and Janet Berry and yours truly had a wonderful cycling holiday in Italy. Janet came along for the sun and the beach, plus she could keep an eye on Graham and we were there for some serious up hill cycling.
Each day after a hearty breakfast we would set off for an average of 100km (60miles). Our hotel, the Hotel Dory is in the coastal resort of Rioccione, so all our rides began at sea level for the first mile and then the climbing would start. Many of these climbs were steady at 5% but would go on for six to ten miles. Then when you were approaching a town or village the last mile seemed to suddenly rise to a 10% gradiant, but as you know what goes up must go down! This is where Rouse was in his element, nose down on the bars rear up in the air (Thanks for that image Gary! - Adrian) and he was away, but I must say that I had enough time waiting for him at the top of a climb to have a cappuccino and a cake before he came into view!!
We returned back at the hotel most days between 2 o’clock and 3. Quickly we would head for the buffet of pasta and even more cakes (this is where I was in my element!). We had to be quick here or the Swiss would devour the lot like a plague of Locusts. Then it was down to the beach where I had trouble with Alan scanning up and down the sun beds at the beautiful Italian bambinos.(Dirty old man!)
Shower, change of clothes (lycra getting a bit hot and uncomfortable by now), then it was time for even more food and wine!
We all had a fantastic time and hope to return there again next year with a few more of our club mates. The only problem we encounted was Graham and his passport photo which was a few years old when he sported a beard. Janet convinced the airport staff that he was her husband and not the Yorkshire Ripper Peter Suttcliff!!!

Seniors;
Our best rider, completing 13 rides (Out of 16 this year - 2 events cancelled) and coming in 4th overall, was Tim Haseldine - well done Tim! Next up in the senior standings was Simon Lockwood in 7th. And that was all the SDCC riders who completed 10 qualifying events. In fact, only 7 riders completed 10 or more events in the seniors this year!
Others in the senior ranks who completed - Andrew Ward (12th - 3 rides), Jason and me (1 ride)
Veterans;
A few more SDCC's in amongst the dominating IBC's! A total of eleven, but with only one completing the 10 qualifying rides necessary; finishing in Bronze medal position, and preventing an IBC 1-2-3 was Kevin Norman - Great riding Kev!
The other vets were: Richard Hunt (5th), Gary Buckle (6th), Andrew Townsend (8th), Graham Berry (9th), Alan Row (13th), Lee Bark (18th), Dave Whitehead (19th), Chris Lacey (23rd), Paul Barton (27th), Charles Tweed (31st)
No SDCC representitives in the ladies event this year! Only 3 ladies raced, so come on chaps, drag some of your wives out for a go!!

Our third and final open time trial event for 2006 went off without any problems - thanks to Pauline and all that helped out. Pauline managed to organise another dry day - well done! The wind made this sporting course a bit tougher and it seemed to increase as the event unfolded. However, with just 30 riders on the start sheet it wasn't too much of a disadvantage to the later starters.
Well done to Martin Pyne for another solid win, denying Andy Leggett his first open win (I'm sure it wont be long Andy!). With only Tim riding whilst other SDCC riders where either helping, ill, unfit or otherwise, Ipswich took the Team prize. Hopefully next year we'll be back to full strength including new signing Ben Caisey.

What a contrast to two weeks ago! Today was all warming balm and water proofs!! One consolation was that the race was reduced by one lap to align with the BC Regional B event classification (Maximum 90km).
As it turned out it only rained for the first couple of laps and then it started to brighten up with the sun making a welcome appearance to dry us out for the finish!
Several riders fell foul of the conditions with punctures and several dropped off the pace, which was pretty constant throughout seeing that no meaningfull break made it away. The final dash up 'the hill' was mared by a crash half way up, luckily no one was seriously injured, but it did hold up several competitiors (Including me!).
Considering the conditions the event went off very well and I beleive was enjoyed by most. Maybe next year I'll have more luck!
Well done to Ben Caisey - 8th place in his first road race - roll-on next year Ben! ;-)

PB's for Tim (22:45) and Adrian (22:08)! A good evening on the E7/10d saw some fast times on this out-and-back dual carriage way course. The event was won by James Millard (Bouweise Wielervriended) with a superd 19:55!!Adrian managed to continue when, at the half way point, a spoke snapped in his front wheel leaving it well buckled. With a quick 'adjustment' to the front brake he was able to continue, albeit with a slight rubbing still - it would have been a 21!!!

Seven club members took part in this 100mile sportive: Renny Stirling, Alan Rouse, John Adams, Graham Berry, myself plus Simon Lockwood and Ben Caisey. Simon and Ben rode with two of their mates but the rest of us rode together, setting off all at the same time and attempting to finish with the same overall.
The first 10mls were nice and easy along rolling coastal roads over looking Port Talbot. Once we headed inland the gradients became more severe and Alan found out he was not on a good day!
With some climbs over 4mls long, gradients of 8% plus, our average plummeted with speeds of only 8mph. But it was all worth while once you crested the top because there was then the 4mls of adrenalin rush at 40mph, nose on the bars, elbows touching the road and arse up in the air, drop down the other side.
Feed and water stations were well placed at the top of each climb, delicacy of the foods being the Welsh tea cakes and the biggest bananas ever seen! Each time we got strung out on the climbs we waited and reassembled for the descent on the other side. We stuck to this plan and all five of us crossed the line together finishing with only seconds dividing us.
At the finish we made contact with Simon and Ben who were busy scoffing burgers, and Ben if not having ridden enough miles was already planning his ride home to Creeting St Mary!
This proved to be a great weekend and will hopefully be the first of many in the future.

The 10 course is back! - With a new super-smooth road surface! Lee takes full advantage winning with a very good time on what was not the best evening of the year. It could have done with a being a bit warmer and less windy! Still, when there is 'a float' on this new surface there should be some fast times.

Summer! And Steve Grimwood obviously likes it, a superb ride. Tim had some hassle with something slow on the road holding him up!

Sudbury's weekly Thursday night TT's started last week but no SDCC members entered - as far as I know?!
This week saw Lee, Adrian and Jason take on the 8 mile course starting from Lavenham. After a frantic 'faffing' around session (His new disc wasn't centered correctly in the frame!) Lee got to the line just in time - nearly another late start! The lack of warm-up nor the fact he'd never ridden this tricky course had any adverse affect as Lee still won convincingly. Adrian was next SDCC rider with just Ben Mickleborough between him and Lee. Jason, having spent the week in Kent with just one pair of pants!! (He'd left his bag at home with his clothes and cycling kit in it - he remembered his bike though!) had obvioulsy not managed to burn off all that hotel food!! (Sorry mate - I'm making the most of this! - Adrian)
Better weather for this weeks round and the times are quicker with the result in IBC's favour with a good win for Steve. Tim's 3rd place sees him joint league leader with Steve - keep it up Tim!

Our first club open event of the year and Pauline had even organised some great weather! The best racing weather of the year so far - a pleasant 16-17 degrees, sunshine and not too windy - excellent!
Glenn Taylor (API-Metrow) continued his great form with a winning time of 46:06. Our best rider, Lee Bark, put in another great ride (Apart from the 15 second late start and a stop to check his wheel after hitting something in the road!) to take third overall. Ipswich BC beat us to the team prize (Phil Hetzel, Steve Grimwood and Ben Casey (2nd claim SDC!)).
Oh, and Adrian beat Jason ;-)

A good Friday, except for the wind in your face after the turn! 30+ MPH all the way out - great, then BANG!, a slog all the way back! With a very good field and a start sheet going up to 106 it was a tall order for SDCC riders to get in the money. Lee was going well with a respectable 22.44 (8th), followed by Gary with a 23:28 (23rd), meaning he beat Adrian (24th) by 5 seconds this week!

Write-up by SDCC club member - Graham Berry
On Sunday 9th April Charles Tweed (new member) Ben Casey(new 2nd claim member) and myself took part, along with 997 other riders in the 22nd "Hell of the North Cotswolds" 100km off road reliability ride.
We started on mass @ 09.00 with Police escort and closed roads through the small town of Winchcombe until the first off road track, the weather was good with condition under wheel firm and mostly dry. Until about 3/4 of the way round when a storm blew up, starting with hail, snow and rain, along with gale force wind making it impossible to ride causing us to take shelter for about 20 minutes, after that the going was extremely treacherous adding about 40 minutes to our time. Total time with breaks 7.03.36. Average speed 8.56 M.P.H. Distance 60.88 Miles.
Planning next years ride already.
On Sunday 16th April Ben Casiey And I rode the CC Beckland 25 mile 2 up Time Trial on the revised BS2 putting in a time of 1.09.26. Ben put in an extremely strong ride with me trying to hang on his wheel.

A good day at the office for Lee and SDCC. A solid ride saw Lee finish second overall and fastest vet, taking home a very nice shield and a few quid! Consistency was the name of the game and with good rides from Gary and Tim, SDCC won the team prize - all three agreed to donate their winnings to the Dragon ride charity event which club members are partaking in later this year - £25 in the pot! Adrian rode solo after Jason was DNS for the 2-up due to a bout of 'man flu' - poor Ramona!
Provisional Results - Haverhill Wheelers Hilly 20MTT Results - photo of result board - I'm not lazy, just resourceful! I hope you can read it. I'll post the printed result once they're on the CTT website.
Well done Lee - great ride. Well done Tim - roll-on the warmer weather hey?!
